Gourmet foods FAQs

I’m concerned about having gourmet cheese sent to me. How can I ensure the cheese will arrive in good condition?

It is a fact that gourmet foods tend to cost a bit more than normal foods. Therefore it is completely understandable that you will want to make sure that the food you spend your money on arrives in an acceptable manner. Before you order from a company, find out how they ship the cheese.

Many of the best gourmet food companies will vacuum seal the cheese and pack it in dry ice inside of Styrofoam to ensure it is delivered fresh. Some companies will also take steps to make sure the cheese does not sit around in a warehouse for a couple of days before it is sent. Call or e-mail the company from which you will order and ask them how the cheese will be sent.

What makes a food a “gourmet food?”

The easy answer is taste, but the truth is that gourmet foods often ? but not always ? taste better than their normal counterparts. One of the main aspects that makes gourmet foods stand out is the way they are presented. Think about the times you have ordered a meal at a fancy restaurant. Chances are that your plate included much less food than you could have received if you had ordered a value meal at a fast food restaurant. Fine chefs, however, will admit that presentation is just as important as taste. A decent meal that is presented extraordinarily all of a sudden becomes an immaculate meal.

How can gourmet foods be advertised as being good for you? Aren’t things like chocolates, steaks and seafood unhealthy?

When it comes to gourmet foods, moderation is the key term. For example, steak is full of protein that is essential for health. There are types of seafood that are high in Omega-3 oils, which help fight heart disease. Chocolate is full of calories that provide energy. Of course, too much of any of these things are not good for you, but if you eat them in moderation, there should be no problem.
